Healing the Wounds of Trauma

Becoming Trauma Sensitive

As we navigate life in this broken world, we have experiences which create pain we are unable to process on our own.  Trauma occurs. And whenever we journey with other people – as a friend, a relative, a neighbor, a teacher or trainer, or as someone serving as a volunteer in an NGO or mission initiative, we will be in contact with people that have gone through trauma and have not (yet) been offered a safe place and way to heal from it.

The goal of this workshop is to become trauma sensitive: it equips you to recognize trauma; and gives you some simple tools to learn to create a safe space for hurting people to process their painful experiences and to reconnect with God and others.

In the workshop, you will experience a Healing Group yourself. It will be led by a trained facilitator with a curriculum that has been used over many years in over 155 countries (developed by the American Bible Society). Healing Groups provide a way for thousands of hurting people to experience healing and hope every year.

The group lessons use stories, activities and discussion questions to help people engage deeply with themselves, with God, and with each other.

After having been part of a Healing Group, you can receive further training as a facilitator. The initial Healing Group workshop will give you basic understanding about trauma and how to come alongside people suffering from the aftermath of adverse experiences.
