Couch Time? Marriage Time!
Does this conversation sound familiar?
“Honey, I’d love to spend the evening with you—come on, let’s have a glass of wine on the balcony.”
“Yeah, I’ll be right there—I just need to unload the dishwasher.”
“Okay, then I’ll use that time to write an email that’s long overdue.”
“I’m ready now—where are you?”
“Yeah, give me 10 more minutes—something urgent just came up.”
Often, it’s not a lack of good intentions, but everyday life places so many demands on us that we often find it hard to prioritize our relationships. With “Couch Time? Marriage Time!” we’re working to counteract this “let’s do it later” mindset. It might seem a bit outdated to have an online offering in 2026 that can’t be streamed whenever it’s convenient. But let’s be honest: we’re often overwhelmed by the countless options that are—or could be—available at any time.
Many couples have told us that the set dates help them actually plan and make time for their marriage. Precisely because it’s clear that you can’t just watch this content whenever you want, you get organized and thus prioritize your marriage. This step alone strengthens the relationship. That’s why we’re sticking with the tried-and-true concept for the ninth season and will only host the evenings live.
Admittedly, all this planning doesn’t exactly sound like Hollywood romance. It would be nice if these moments just happened naturally. I agree, but when it comes to a partnership, the same rule applies as with strength training: consistency beats intensity. A relationship doesn’t thrive primarily on grand gestures for a special occasion or a romantic spa weekend. It thrives on the small, often unspectacular expressions of connection—rooted right in the midst of the normal chaos of everyday life.
But why does Youth With a Mission invest so heavily in marital relationships? Quite simply, because we’re convinced that it’s our calling as images of God to reflect His nature in our surroundings. We can do this individually at work and in our free time, but it is precisely in the way we live out our relationships that we can make a difference and build up God’s kingdom. It is no coincidence that Paul calls marriage a reflection of God’s love for us humans.
